The Sound of Blue

The Sound of Blue

11 December 2020 - 7 February 2021

An exhibition that brings together artists in a celebration of the colours blue and white.

For centuries blue and white has been strongly represented in many cultures and its historical depiction can be dated back to the Egyptian empire using the pigment of blue made from semi-precious lapis lazuli pigment. Since then, various pigments have been developed and used; from ultramarine, prussian, cobalt and even a new synthetic pigment that has been introduced to create the rich shades of blue Yin Min produced in 2009.  Artists continue to be inspired by this colour and are finding new and contemporary ways to create in various mediums. The exhibition includes ceramics, textiles, glass, furniture, photography & printmaking.

Artists include: Amy Kennedy, Keiko Matsui, Emma Peters, Julie Shepherd, Annika Romeyn, Grant Donaldson, Niharika Hukku, Leila Jeffreys, Rebecca Coulter, Catherine Capan & Steve Giannuzzi.

REEF

In conjunction with this exhibition local artist Patrice Cooke will complement ‘The sound of blue’ with her own display of beautiful ceramic sculptures. The display called “Reef” reflects the artist’s fascination with nature; and explores the delicate balance of our natural environment becoming increasingly precarious.

Sturt School for Wood Graduation

Sturt School for Wood graduates 2020

On Saturday 21 November we staged the graduation for our students in Clubbe Hall on Frensham campus. With many friends, family, Alumni and staff in attendance this was an extremely enjoyable and, at times, emotional experience. This year’s students really have embraced everything that Sturt and Frensham have to offer and we thank them all for their determined pursuit of excellence throughout a challenging year.

Their 'TWENTY TWENTY' exhibition showed a stunning range of furniture and objects in Sturt Gallery – 22 November to 6 December.
