Children Workshops

Sturt Winter School 2022

Monday 4 - Friday 8 July

For children between 7 - 12 years, we run a different workshop each day. The classes run from 9.00am to 4.00pm, with morning tea, lunch and materials all inclusive.

Choose to do one day (or more) at $100 per day, or enrol for the whole week for $460. Details for each course and tutor are listed below – click on the name of the course to expand, and use the form below to register.

Accommodation for children under 12 staying with an accompanying adult is available for $325 (5 nights - from Sunday 3 to Thursday 7 July). Please note that all students staying on site required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

Monday: Fur and feathers (Drawing & Mixed Media) FULL

Monday 4 July
Tutor: Slavica Zivkovic

Leave your ipads at home and free your imagination. Delving into the world of the fur and feathers! Let’s create drawings using pen and ink techniques, combine with textures, found objects and images to construct a collage of your own ‘fantastical’and exotic PET.

Tuesday: Storybook creations! (Painting) FULL

Tuesday 5 July
Tutor: Slavica Zivkovic

Create a colourful canvas depicting a character or characters from your favourite story to hang in your room. Let your imagination guide you as we share our stories and explore unusual and experimental methods of painting.

Wednesday: The mysterious world of shadows (Shadow Puppetry) FULL

Wednesday 6 July
Tutor: Sue Wallace

Explore the magical, mysterious world of shadows. Use simple materials and light to create your own characters, shapes and stories. You will learn how to make your puppets and then bring them to life with one of Australia’s leading puppeteers from the Sydney Puppet Theatre.

Thursday: Garden creatures (Ceramics) FULL

Thursday 7 July
Tutor: Machiko Motoi

Rug up and let’s take a walk together around the gardens at Sturt and Frensham to imagine creatures that could live there! You’ll then spend the morning making sketches, before creating your own garden creature and learning building techniques with clay.

Friday: A pot of your own (Ceramics) FULL

Friday 8 July

Sturt has an amazing collection of very special, amazing, old pots! Let’s sneek into the Archives together. We’ll talk about how the pieces were made, who made them and work out what they where used for. Then with clay and clay tools, you’ll make a pot or vessel of your own.
