About Sturt

Welcome to creative excellence

Sturt is Australia’s pioneering design centre and school for contemporary craft. Situated 100km south of Sydney in the Southern Highlands, we offer a wide range of courses and workshops for both adults and school-age students at all skill levels.

More than a place of exceptional learning, Sturt plays an important role in the cultural and historic makeup of the region – attracting over 30,000 visitors every year to its exhibitions, events, contemporary design retail space, café and gardens.

School for Wood

Our one-year, full-time accredited MSF40222 Certificate IV in Furniture Design and Manufacturing attracts students from all over Australia. With only 12 places offered each year, this sought-after course involves a rigorous application process where only the best and brightest succeed.

Sturt Courses

Our weekly courses in metalwork/jewellery, ceramics, woodwork and weaving attract over 100 students, while our residential Summer and Winter Schools bring in over 200 students in January and July.

We also offer short course weekends or one-day introductory workshops throughout the year.

Sturt Gallery

A place that both nurtures and celebrates creativity, Sturt Gallery presents an annual program of curated exhibitions, and promotes the works of over 300 of Australia’s finest emerging and established artists, designers and makers in our retail space. Open Monday to Sunday, from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

Sturt Coffee is Sturt Gallery’s stylish pop-up café. We serve a delicious range of coffees, teas, soft drinks and treats from Wednesday to Sunday, 10:00am to 4:00pm.
