Sturt Craft Centre is proud to announce two new appointments to Sturt. Mark Viner will commence as Head of Sturt (replacing Megan Patey after eleven years) on January 25th, 2010 and Stuart Faulkner who commenced on January 11th, 2010
Head of Sturt, Mark Viner, MA (History and Art History), Cambridge University.
Former General Manager Properties and Director of Public Programs at the Historic Houses Trust and, before that, Regional Arts Development Officer for the Southern Tablelands area, Mark has had significant experience in both the development and promotion of public arts and education programmes and a wealth of curatorial experience across a variety of art forms. He brings sensitive respect for the skills and needs of professional and developing crafts persons, significant experience in the conservation and management of historically significant sites, and a passion for all that Sturt represents.
Director of the Sturt School for Wood, Stuart Faulkner (B Voc Ed & Training (2007), Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design and Production (1984), Diploma in Scientific Illustration (1982). Stuart also holds a Cert IV in Fine Woodworking (1997) from Sturt, a Cert IV in Training and Assessment (2008) and a Cert III in General Construction Carpentry - Housing.
Former Head Teacher in the design section of Lidcombe College, Stuart has also been a full time teacher for both the furniture and product design courses and before entering teaching was a furniture designer/maker and member of the Splinter Workshop cooperative at St Peters. (Stuart is well known at Sturt, owing to his previous involvement as a student and as a teacher in the School for Wood for 3 months in 2006, when the late Tom Harrington was on Leave.)
