EXHIBITION APPLICATION PROCEDURE
The exhibition program at Sturt Gallery is an important part of Sturt’s philosophy which is to promote Australian contemporary craft.
The exhibition program is planned one to two years in advance. Your proposal will be viewed by the Exhibition Committee which meets three times each year. After review, your images will be returned to you as soon as possible.
The Exhibition Committee aims to present over several years, a variety of exhibitions reflecting:
- diverse media and disciplines in the crafts
- local as well as interstate and international artists
- excellent work with regard to artistic merit and presentation
- exploration of contemporary issues
- personal expression
Your exhibition proposal for Sturt Gallery should include:
- Current address and contact details
- Short biography or curriculum vitae.
- Short description of the concept, ideas or objects to be exhibited which includes how your proposal reflects the above criteria
- Preferred dates for exhibiting
- Slides or prints of your work
EXHIBITION CONDITIONS
Cost of Exhibition: $750 for 2008; $800 for 2009. This price is correct at the time of printing, but is reviewed annually. Exhibitions usually open on Sundays, and run for four weeks. A Tax Invoice will be issued at the end of the exhibition to the artist and must be paid within 3 weeks. This fee covers the following:
Invitations
The Exhibition fee covers the cost for 500 single sided invitations in colour. Extra costs such as double sided invitations, or extra quantities will be shared equally between the Gallery and the Artist. Sturt designs the invitation unless otherwise arranged. Good quality images must be provided by the artist if this is required for the invitation. If digital, the size of the image must be big enough for quality reproduction (over 1 MB in TIFF format).
Opening
Catering is organised by Sturt. This includes wine, orange juice, mineral water and light refreshments.
Mailing List
Sturt Gallery pays for postage to a selected mailing list. The Artist is responsible for payment to personal mailing lists.
Insurance
Sturt Gallery insures all work at Sturt Gallery.
Advertising
Sturt Gallery advertises regularly in Art Almanac, Southern Highland News, Southern Highlands Tourism listings and publications, Sturt’s website plus links, and specialist journals and newsletters. Extra advertising is negotiated between the Gallery and the Artist. Sturt has an active promotional program and exhibitors benefit from this promotion.
Commission
Sturt Gallery’s commission is 33 1/3% (plus GST on Commission) of the retail price. Payment for work sold will be made within 30 days of the close of the exhibition; however this depends on prompt payment by purchasers.
Cancellation
Three months notice is necessary for cancellation of a proposed exhibition. If notice is not given a cancellation fee of $200 will be charged.
Exhibition Agreement
Artists must sign the exhibition agreement and agree to the stated dates for delivery of works and promotional material.
Pricing
Decisions on pricing are made by the artist in consultation with Sturt Gallery. List of works, medium and prices should be submitted at least one week before delivery of works. (If possible, emailed and in table rather than tab format).
Publicity Material
Images for reproduction for publicity must be excellent quality, print, slide or scanned onto CD. This needs to be given to Sturt at least 8 weeks prior to exhibition date. If digital, the size of the image must be big enough for quality reproduction (over 1 MB in TIFF format).
Artists Details
A current CV is to be supplied. It is preferable that this is in table format (not using tabs) and sent by e-mail to: shop@sturt.nsw.edu.au Please include an artist’s statement which refers to present work. Please include GST status details at the time of sending your publicity material. From the CV or resume, and artist’s statement, we develop a Media Release which is sent to the media prior to the exhibition.
Opener & Title
Please also include – a title for your exhibition and consider the name of a suitable person to open your exhibition.
Delivery
Works must be delivered on the set date ready for display. This includes all hanging attachments. Arrangement and payment for special fixtures for hanging or display are the responsibility of the artist. Delivery of works to the gallery and collection of any unsold works at the completion of the exhibition are the responsibility of the artist.
