17 Interwoven: weaving sculptural basketry forms with Catriona Pollard

Explore traditional basketry with a sculptural perspective through a series of creative exercises that will uncover the unique properties of natural materials. Beginning with the exploration of ephemeral art techniques, connect nature with your personal stories and creativity. Learning traditional basketry and weaving techniques, including random weave, twining and constructions, you will use a variety of foraged and harvested natural fibres to weave forms to complete a series of sculptural forms.
Catriona Pollard’s work is inspired by her relationship with the environment. An accomplished basketry artist, Catriona sees the extraordinary in the ordinary, predominantly using found and salvaged organic material, she adds a contemporary layer to the ancient form of basketry. Catriona’s work is featured nationally in galleries, design spaces and private collections.

"My work is about seeing the extraordinary in everyday moments. For me, it’s about being still, and letting the beauty emerge. I use nature as a way to connect with people that goes beyond physical beauty, but really touches them in a personal and profound way."
