Sturt is a centre of excellence for contemporary craft education.  Situated just one hour south of Sydney, ten minutes from the F2 Freeway and five minutes from Tourism Southern Highlands at Mittagong, Sturt attracts over thirty thousand visitors each year.

Sturt runs contemporary craft courses in full-time, part-time and short course formats.  The full-time VETAB accredited Certificate IV in Fine Woodworking attracts twelve students each year from all over Australia.  Part-time courses in jewellery, ceramics, wood and weaving are taught to over seventy students each week. Sturt Summer and Winter Schools attract over two hundred students in January and July to take part if a wide selection of craft, fine art, and specialty courses. A selection of short courses is offered during the year, with a focus on contemporary craft.

STURT GALLERY The Gallery is open 7 days from 10am - 5pm and exhibits the work of Australian artists, designers and craftspeople.

STURT CAFÉ opens five days (Wednesday to Sunday) from 10am ­ 3pm (till 4 pm on Sundays) and is a popular lunch and coffee venue for visitors to the Southern Highlands.

FRIENDS OF STURT (formerly Sturt Association) is a volunteer support group which assists in fund raising and other promotional activities, such as exhibition openings, slide presentations and social events. Funds raised by Friends of Sturt support Sturt's Artist-in-Residence program.

In 2000, Sturt was presented with the "Best Regional Attraction in the Southern Highlands" Award and was Runner Up in 2006. Sturt Craft Centre is an important part of the cultural history of Australia, and deserves a visit from anyone traveling to the Southern Highlands of NSW.
